I sticked some movies in a usb and noticed .mp4 videos plays fine but .avi format don't. The issue with .avi is theres no video but there is sound and at the bottom it says video format not supoorted or something similar.
Some codecs are not supported, you can't do anything about it, unless you setup a DLNA server (like seriio or the Homestream Sony flavour of it) that convert the file on the fly in order to let them play on your tv
