Hi irishlass, hi mar1307.

All I can say is that you are not alone - this seems common with the new version of MSN.

We have escalated this problem to Sony but have not yet received an answer (I think they consider this a MSN problem as the camera seems to work with Skype and other IM programs).

The only advice I can give you is to make absolutely sure MSN is not running automatically at startup and locking the camera. Most programs these days try to install an automatic loading of some of their program so you can open it quickly when you choose. I always refuse permission to do this.

First check the system startup items: -

1. Click Start
2. Type msconfig in the search box
3. Click Continue in the User Account Control window
4. Click on the Startup Tab
5. Uncheck any boxes in the "Startup Items" that have anything to do with MSN
6. Click OK

If that doesn't work, run 'Task Scheduler' and check what tasks are run at startup.

You could try reinstalling MSN as this seems to be the culprit.

These are worth a try until someone finds a solution or Sony get back to us.

:thinking:

try this ;

go to your program files > windows live folder... copy "msnmsgr.exe" and paste it there . now you have two msnmsgr.exe, one is original and the other is copy of that. Now rename copy one as "msnmsgr2.exe" and run it.. now you will be able to use your cam on msn a.k.a windows live messenger.
