Screen problems

Hi,
I'v had my Sony Vaio PCG-K115S for about 4 months now and iv found a problem that seems to be happening all the time although it can be selective about the times it seems to want to occur.
The problem being is that when I open or Close my Vaio Lid while the computer is on, the screen flickers! And also sometimes when the screen is left up it flickers in certain upright positions, the problem is most visible when the computer is running on battery and the screen brightness is about 50%, Although it is very visible when plugged in and up full brightness and generally opening and closing the lid.

Its come to be very annoying and I was just wondering if its a hardware defect or software problem? Do i need to upgrade some drivers or do i need to fetch my warrenty?

Cheers all!

hi nick,
please try this test :

1) brightness in lowest mode or auto or 10-20% ( not in highest mode )
2) open adobe reader 6 and expand the window to full screen
3) look at the gray background ( of adobe reader ) . Can you see the flickering noise ?

if you want read my post "to all vaio A series owners !!! x-black = defective technology ?" where x-black = ultra bright

bye

From what I've seen in the forums before it's a hardware problem, although I'm not 100%. So yeah, don't using your warranty as a coffee mat any time soon. I have the same model, same flicker. I would suggest trying a newer driver version before bothering Sony support, but they haven't released any yet. In any case I'm using modified desktop drivers and the problem is no better or worse.

Call support I guess.

Must say it's quite shocking that Sony have done nothing about all these K series notebooks that have so many problems. This is really unacceptable, don't put up with this nonsense - complain to the highest level.

Yep - if it's happening in the BIOS - it's the screen.
Now Sony will argue to the cows come home that it's the way it's made, but it shouldn't flicker as much as you people say.

Ah now that's an interesting idea, I've never sat at the BIOS screen long enought to see if it flickers (No BIOS options!)

Trouble is it doesn't do it all the time. I'm positive it's hardware related anyway from my experience.
