I would be grateful for any help with my car stereo which is a Sony CDX S2050, I've had it from new for approx 8 years.
The head part of the stereo is flashing but when I go to turn the unit on i.e. press any of the buttons nothing works, then a couple of seconds later the head unit goes dead with nothing on its display.
The other day I popped in a CD and it started playing this, but I couldn't use any of the buttons on the head unit i.e. volume, or fast forward track.
I am not sure if I need to purchase a whole new unit or not? So any help/advice would be gratefully appreciated..
Thanks in advance

Hi
Sorry for the delay in the reply. We tried cleaning the connectors a week or so ago and it didn't help the problem, the head unit was still flashing as if working but when pressing buttons nothing was happening. However after trying to get the stereo out of the vehicle entirely (and failing as we had the wrong radio keys), the radio spat out the CD which was in the unit. When I put the CD back in the radio it started up as usual.. and all of the buttons on the radio unit suddenly worked again! So at the present time it is working and has been for the the past week.
I have had problems with the unit in the past in the sense that it turns the volume down itself to 0,I then need to press the reduce volume button before trying to increase the volume again.
Its a very quirky unit to say the least but I am presently just glad it is working.

Hi jenkinson_lauren,
welcome to the Sony User Community Forum..:smileyhappy:
The first thing that springs to mind is that the connectors may need to be cleaned on both the detachable panel & the main unit..
If that doesn't resolve the problem then it might be worth asking a reputable specialist radio repairer/installer in your to take a look..
FYI I have also removed your other duplicate post to avoid confusion, etc..:smileywink:
