Walkman Performance on Z3 Compact

Hi,

currently I own the Z1 Compact but I plan to "upgrade" to the Z3 Compact very soon. View questions please:

  • Sound quality in Walkman App BETTER than Z3 Compact?
  • High Res Audio: Is it worth?
  • Sound Volume: Quite low on the Z1 Compact ...

I would like to say that the Z1 Compact is already able to playback High Res Audio Files (WAV and FLAC up to 24bit/96KHz, try it 😉 so I am not sure if it is only a "marketing trick" of Sony or if the Z3 Compact is noticeably better in playing back High Res Files ...

In other threat of mine, I've been told by a Sony engineer who participated in the design of latest Xperia phones that although Z1C can process the HD audio files at the input (it can read them), it can only output music at 48kHz, 16 bit because those are the specifications of its D/A converter.

Whereas Z3C, I believe, converts everything to 192 kHz, 24 bit, processes the audio files internally in that format and also outputs them at 192 kHz, 24 bit because, unlike Z1C, it features an HD D/A converter.

I am also thinking QUITE hard about upgrading to Z3C from Z1C some time next year when the prices go down a bit. I find the audio quality provided by my Z1C as EXCELLENT. But the fact that Z3C can output at 192 kHz, 24 bit is quite something to consider.

Needless to say, I was very disappointed seeing those "Z3C cracked screen" threads appearing in Z3C forum. Kind of put me back. We'll see how things develop with Z3C.
