Sony Xperia Z - Dead, won't turn on, won't charge, PC doesn't recognise

Hi there

Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.

My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.

Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

good news guys finaly I resolved the problem finally by my own coinsidently. I had same red led problem. red led light up only when connected to charger. nothing happened after. I send it to a local store to repair but they hv returned me with damaged back part without fixing my problem telling me instead I hv to send it to a high support store and they told that its hardware problem cause they already saw changing battery can't fix it. then I take my mobile back from the store. I had a back charger (power house) of xperia z which charge the mobile by two side pin (left side). I donno why my mind told me to do a last try, I just charged it throug that power charger for 40 minute. then certainly my mobile swiched on by normaly pressing power button. charge was only 5%. then I let it charge with normal charger and now normal charger also started working. my set is now fine. just back part damaged by idiot pweple from local store.thanks everyone

It seems this isn't a very specific problem, Sony.
After a measely three weeks of enjoying my Xperia Z, I am not impressed in the slightest by the blindingly obvious shortage of fixes for a problem that carries over multiple models and is clearly varying slightly from case to case. You guys really f****d this one up. I feel ashamed embarrassed to have reccommended such a terribly faulty piece of technology so frivilously to all my iphone wielding peers. Having bought this phone second hand (pretty much still box condidtion, never used) I am now $300 poorer with no warranty in sight and, after reading of the utter lacking of results accross your support forum, am now under the apparent assumption I will be spending a whole lot more money on it before I can even sell it back off, which I will be sure to do. This phone has been used for a grand total of three weeks, there isn't even a scratch on the bottom corner of the **bleep**.

Anyway, I've realised now that I will not almost certainly NOT find an answer, just the same question reapeated slightly differently and answered in the same suit, however any help would be much appreciated. in my case, I see the LED flash each time the power button is pressed (whilst being charged) and flashes three times when not charging. Holding down the volume up and power button is useless (or is it volume DOWN? seems to vary with every answer) and yes it has been on charge for a LONG time. Not only is this the case but I am (yes, very unfortunately) not using a PC, and the only program downloadable for Mac is the 'bridge to mac.' Now, not only is this the most irritatingly set out and laughably useless program I could have ever imagined using, (everytime I connected to the Mac it was absolute **bleep** to try and sync, made the whole computer run at minus dial up speed) but it also has no obvious 'repair' leads and I cannot find anything anywhere on that program or in my finder for that matter which even recognises a device is connected.

This is almost enough to make me switch STRAIGHT to Xbox... Jokes aside, absolutely appalled.

Oh, and if the comment regarding the person seemingly having the problem most similar to mine with the three flashes occurring when the power button is pressed, who said that the problem was made completely redundant by simply using a galaxy charger, is actually correct, then I really am selling up and going to Xbox.

I will just add another unanswered question, but it at least feels good to do so.

My screen had a shock and got it replaced. Got my phone back and no way to turn it on.

It is very strange :

-If I plug it to my computer the blue light appears and I can hear the typical Windows USB recognition and nothing happen. PC Companion never finds the phone.

-When I plug it normally to 220v (with original cable) that's where it gets odd. The red light appears about 1 or 2 seconds. The Sony appears on the screen and phone vibrates. Red light goes dead straignt after vibration and screen goes black. Then the red lights come again for a few second, and same again Sony on the screen a few seconds... and so on... It goes on a loop but never charges and no way to switch it on.

No clue of what it could be...

Help would be appreciated even if I have not much hope.

Tried every bit of **bleep** you guys suggested. Well the problem is not with phone but the charger. So try on new charger of any other company and it will be fineand stop torchering your phone by pressing and strangling all its keys. Sony is amazing. No doubt.

My Tablet Z has shut down and will not turn on again. It does still charge and have charged to full (The screen displays when connecting the charger and the LED lights display green for full). Tried resetting with volume up + power (holding up to 3 minutes even), and was also able to successfully do a tablet repair via pc as the pc recognised it, but the tablet still does not power on. There was supposed to be a bug fix for this in a update in 2013. November 2014 and I now have this problem?

My Tablet Z is only just over 2 months old.
With no Sony care support near by, I would be forced to take it to network service providers - which is bad.

Please help

I had the same exact problem, but was able to fix it. Try switching your charging method first. For example, if you are charging from USB switch to magnetic charging. Then try pressing up + the power button. When I did this it vibrated 3 times and then the charging light went off. Then switch back to how you were charging before. It will take at least half an hour before you can turn it on, but it will work.

I think the issue is that it forgets how to charge itself. That's why switching how you provide power seems to fix it. No matter how many hours I have it sitting, the red light doesn't really mean anything. It's supposed to indicate that it's charging, but its obviously not charging. That blinking red light you get when you try to turn it on is probably indicating that there is no power with which to activate anything.
