Hi there
Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.
My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.
Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.
Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.
Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

hi all
first of all, let me just say that i have been a long time supporter of all things sony, i have nearly everything at home and car sony, (bit of a mistake? maybe as there is literally a problem with every single item, but eh.. im gluten for punishment i suppose,)
but after what has happened in the last three and a half hours, i might just rethink any other stuff from sony,
i have read nearly all of these forums relating to this issue, and im shocked that it backdates to when i first round about bought my phone.
needless to say, i have almost the same problem as everyone else.
except for one problem, i have no light what so ever, i awoke and went to check my phone for the time and it was on wall charge, i put phone back down, as i have done thousands of times before, and the charge light went out.
i picked phone back up, and nothing.
a brick!
im now stressing like all **bleep** as im sick today and wont be able to make it into work, whats worse is that i must notify my boss of this before i start, his number is in the brick,
its unlisted,
the brick is the only source of contacting him.
if i cant get my phone working in less than 2 and a half hours, i will get fired!
great option of the live chat forum, (if it was available at this hour that is!)
i tried to send email through contact section, even that didnt work.
i sent one through my conformation email for becoming a member here (why on earth? why the **bleep** was this problem addressed 2 years ago and a recall put in place?)
unless somone can help me out asap, im screwed!
(and yes i have tried nearly every method mentioned so far, but all of them relate to having some form of life, i just have a brick..)
Today, I turned off the phone (with 20% of the battery) and after several attempts I am no longer able to start it, no bootloader, no recovery, no logo, no LED and connecting it to the charging does not work
Hi fezman
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines
What I advise is running a Software Repair on your handset as it is very likely to resolve the issue being currently experienced.
Please note that performing these steps will delete all user data except for your media files (photos, music and video).
If your handset is able to be powered on and unlocked you can follow the below steps to back-up your personal data prior to running the repair.
Backing up your handset
To back up your phone using PC Companion
1. Go to Support to install PC Companion on a Windows computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Exactly what contents will be backed up may differ depending on phone model.
You can view detailed information about this as you follow the steps in the Backup & Restore wizard.
Running the software repair
Before you start you have to download the PC Companion software and install it on your PC.
Once installed on your PC, double-click the PC Companion icon on your desktop to start the update.
Please ensure your phone is powered off and not connected to the PC when you begin this process. You are not required to connect the phone until after step 10.
1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
2. Phone Software Update.
3. Start.
4. Repair Phone
5. Continue
6. Accept data removal
7. Next
8. Wait for prepare
9. Select Phone
10. Follow the connection steps
My xperia has been about 1 year now........and now all of a sudden it is like dead...
It does not boot up, doesn't charge with magnetic charger as my usb port is gone and the volume up+power button also doen't work....I don't have any idea what's wrong?? So plz someone give me any suggestion..Thanks.
musnt have read my message to well,'
you must have missed the part where i said its a brick, non functioning etc, ive never seen a brick light up, or vibrate etc, dont know about you....
and besides, after hours and hours of continously searching for answers and trying just about everything, i definately tried that aswell, WOW, big surprise, it didnt work either......
To the other people on the exact same issue as mine, im afraid that youll have to take the same steps as me,
check your warranty,
if covered, your in luck,
try to get a live chat happening with a sony rep here somewhere,
explain what has happened,
they should direct you to get your phone looked at\repaired from a different outsourced company called fonebiz.
i have just returned from the post office from sending mine off, only cost me 1.75$ so far in packaging.
ill await future responses from sony and fonebiz,
i see no worry in this issues being covered by warranty as sooooooo many other people are having the exact same issues,
female dog of a phone should have been recalled as soon as the fault was found in the first place, instead of this massive stuff around and several disgruntled customers whom i have no doubt are that frustrated that they probably will sway away from buying anything from sony in the future...
Good day
I have read this form form end to end and it seems like there is still no answer to this problem.
My phone yesterday just died. Became unresponsive with not even the LED light flashig or anything. I tried to restart my phone by holding in the on/off button and the volume button but nothing worked. I tried the steps mentioned by Sony of repairing the through Sony PC Companion but the PC does not recognise my phone. So i charged it overnight. This morning I tried again the Sony PC Companion program and now the LED light goes on when I plug it into the computer. But it still does not want to reset. And since that is one of the steps when repairing using Sony PC Companion, I cant repair it.
I always loved my phone but this is kind of killing my faith in sony.
Is there anyway that I can reset this phone without pressing the on/off button and the volume botton?
i have all the same problems so basically plug phone into pc with good charger and it started charging for me if not you should ask for a refund or buy a new phone or possibly buy a chargin dock for it
My Battery went completely dead and after putting it back on the charger I have been trying to make it turn on by holding the power button and pressing the UP Volume button at the same time , It will vibrate 3 times the led red light flashes and instead of showing me the Sony symbol it shows me a power cord ? ,, It's been like this all day ~ Can anyone help ? Thanks
Try a diffrent charging cable i had this problem put in a cheap charger and bang works and charged right away .
Sony need to sort out there phones they are substanderd and very buggy.if you are going to make a smart phone make one that works.
When you goole a problem and google throws up page after page to look at you know you are not stepping up to the mark SONY!
