Sony Xperia Z - Dead, won't turn on, won't charge, PC doesn't recognise

Hi there

Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.

My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.

Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

Thommo, youre method does not work as the phone does not flash any light at all. The phone is a brick after the Android 5.0 update. Pc companion cant read the phone as the phone is lifeless. Any other suggestions? .

No life even if connected to a mains socket or USB port on a Pc ie:lights etc?

Sorry to hear this but you would need to either return your device to the place of purchase or contact Xperia care and have your device inspected http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

Well nice to see no solution has been provided by Sony.

I have a Z3 Compact and now happened to me 3 times over a month. Havent tried a magnetic charging station yet. (normally plugging in pulls the phone back to a boot state) Will try today once ive spent more money on repairing an error that shouldnt have got out of a test lab. This is happening to my phone at above 90% battery life.

No real update from me just to say ive read through this whole post and am disgusted with the fact Sony have yet to comment properly.

Just disappointed thats all...

In this day and age where we pretty much run our lifes from our phones how can this type of shoddy functionality get to sale????
