Sony Xperia Z - Dead, won't turn on, won't charge, PC doesn't recognise

Hi there

Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.

My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.

Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

Hello guys,

Now lets take this topic seriusly, this topic is opened for 2 years +-. I have to say this is just terrible, Sony isnt doing anything to help us out. You just put here your stupid "robotic" answers and guides and you do completely nothing to solve our problem. As you can see, this problem is know worldwide and u still do nothing about this issue.

Btw, have the same problem. I was swimming with my phone and then like 2-3 hours later my phone just went down. When i plugged it into charger or notebook, it was just flashing red LED light and nothing happened. Tried every single solution written above and nothing helped (Red button, power button + volume up/down, holding it for 120s/60s, downloaded the software whichc couldnt find my phone. I had this problem before once but somehow i managed to charge the phone threw night. Im not sure what happend.

Now i ask you Sony to solve this issue, because how it seems, your support forum is terrible and your help too. How srsly possible, that topic is opened for 2 years and u still have nothing to say about this?.. Terrible, just terrible.

More proof it appears to be an Android screw up, with Z3's crashing this kinda rules out dead batteries and the common link is 5.0.2,

Can you confirm or not if your phones work ok connected to a power source?

When i put him into notebook or charger its red light is flashing all the time nothing else, no restart/reboot/buttons works. I was charging the phone for 12-14 hours, but still no response. I tried something threw flashtools or companion but they didnt find my device at all. Ive read somewhere let the phone be for like day (without charging) and then try to charge him. So now im letting him be and we will see tommorrow

On the Samsung forums where this issue has got into their phones most say they sent them in and they came back with a replacement PBA so it looks like it is a HW issue after all and probably caused by the last two updates driving the phone too hard.

This is the second time my phone has had this problem in the past week. Both times it has run out of power and would not charge. Last time it happened I left it charging over night and it turned on fine in the morning.

This time however it doesn't seem to charge at all, even with the magnetic charger. I've tried the volume rocker reset but that is doing nothing and I've tried plugging it into my PC but it won't read it... I'm stumped now... Any suggestions?

Mine is also now not accepting a charge, it says on screen 90-100% if I charge it but the battery is in fact dead as I get the bleep just before the boot finishes, if I'm lucky enough to get a complete boot as soon as I touch anything it dies again,

I'm about to start bump starting it to see if I can get enough juice in it for 10 mins of up time, bump starting is connect it to charger and wait for the red led to go green, unplug and repeat, long winded as ten tries didn't give it enough last time,

Next up I'm going to Fastboot reload 4.4.4 and then do a factory reset on it and hope,

Lollypop has killed many Android devices and I'm wondering what the legal side of this will be as I'm not happy I've had a £1000 phone trashed by a bad O/S,

New battery and a roll back to 4.4.4 sorted mine, you'll need a new battery as once the old one gets to a point it will never charge again enough to perform the roll back fully, £1.95 eBay 3 days post, you'll feel the difference between the OS's 5.0.2 turns the phone into a hot water bottle, 4.4.4 doesn't.

After 2 day (today is holiday, so i was no able to get my phone into repair). The red light stoppped flashing. I let the phone be for like 12-14 hours without charging and the red light dissappeared. Other functions are not still working (reset/power+volume etc). Only the red light stoppped flashing. So im not sure if thats good or bad, atleast before the phone was atleast doing something, no seems like its completely dead.

Similar issue as miffed here.
Shows ~80% if i manage to get it to charge via the "pre-boot" charging screen.
If manage to turn it on it dies shortly after with ~80% battery level reported in os.
If i instead use the small power off button under sim hatch it instead restart, stops charging but show 0% in the pre-boot charge screen.. (If i manage to get that one to show)
Multiple tries needed and looooooong presses off force pwr off button.
Results are very unconsistent..

Repar order sent, will most likely be replaced with no more info given..

Oh, and this is the second time this has happend to me. Exactly a year ago my original phone was replaced for the exact same issue. This time everything is in the cloud so the process is a lot less painful.

Requoting this post....

mine is happening on a daily basis. to get it back up fast (for me),

1) plug it into a PC or charger to see the red led

2) press and hold the tiny yellow button near your sim slot

3) hold it there and your phone will continue to shut off, on, shut off, on etc

4) hold it there till you see the sony icon

mine usually boots back up in < 1 minute. good luck on this temporary solution until sony decides that we customer's are worth their time
