Sony Xperia Z - Dead, won't turn on, won't charge, PC doesn't recognise

Hi there

Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.

My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.

Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

Same thing has happened to me today morning. I kept my phone in charging while battery level was at 37%. Suddenly after 30 minutes I saw that my Z3-Compact doesn't on at all.

1. I tried to make it ON by pressing power on/off switch for several times, but no results.

2. I kept phone on charging for around 3 hrs and then tried to ON it as per process mentioned above. and after certain try it eventually on.

3. phone took 3-4 attempts to finally come up.

4. I recently updated new Lollipop latest version, therefore I thought might be because of that it is not responding therefore I uninstalled all other applications and tried to reset phone to factory state.

5. Unfortunately phone went off again and now it's not coming up at all.

6. All processes have been tried but no response.

please suggest, if you have some info.

Thanks.

Just happened to me today- Xperia Z3 Compact

So last night, i left my phone to charge after reaching 5%. When I woke up, my phone won't start and it won't charge either. The LED indicator was not lighting when it is plugged.

I tried every trick:

1. Pressed down the power button in different lengths.

2. No. 1 but with the volume down key

3. Pressed down the yellow button on the sim card tray

4. Tested 5 different charger heads and different wires

5. Tried connecting to 2 different laptops to see if my phone will be recognized

NOTHING WORKED

I work close by a Sony Center so I was planning on passing by after work. I was already having a really bad day and my phone is not under warranty. Throughout the morning, I'd randomly check the power button if it will finally work. FORTUNATELY, during lunch, the LED indicator finally lit up! The batt was drained so I had to charge it and wait a few minutes before turning it on. Finally it's on. I don't know what the eff happened or if it is really resolved. I'd still want to know what the **bleep** is wrong with Xperia Z phones??

Since yesterday my Xperia Z won't get any further than the Sony logo and turn off again, when I try to revive it.

The problems started two days ago, I played with it and it turned really hot, but that was nothing new for me. New was, that it turned off without warning. I know that sometimes every 3-4 month it will freeze and I have to do a hard reset, but never this.

It took me 8 tries to get it back. Sometimes it died during showing me the waves or even when it wanted my pin.

Same thing happened two more times in the evening and yesterday morning, but not when I cooled it down with an ice pack at it's back. So I thought it was a heat problem.

In the end it completely died while only playing music with 93% of my battery.

I tried the following things:

1. Hold Power Button -> It vibrates, tries to start, but dies quickly

2. Hold Power Button + Volume Up -> At first it vibrated three times, but it didn't change anything. Now it doesn't vibrate at all

3. Hold Power Button + both Volume Buttons -> Nothing

4. Plugged it to the computer with a non-Sony usb cable -> Red LED is on, I get the system sound for connection a new device to the PC and display shows me, that the battery is loading (yesterday evenging still 90%)

5. Repair it via Software-Update of Sony PC Companion -> Nothing changed

6. Plugged it to the computer with original usb cable -> Green LED flashes quickly, I get the system sound, but the connection is highly unstable and it will disconnect and connect after a failed start again. Display is off, can't browse in the explorer and PC Companion doesn't recognise the Sony Xperia Z (C6603), only that it's an Sony Phone or Tablet.

7. Reparied it again via the Sony usb cable -> Still nothing

8. Tried again the other usb cable -> now the red LED isn't lit and display is also off

I still have warranty, but I wanted to try to repeair it on my own first, before I have no phone for a couple of weeks.

Is there anything else I can do without loosing the warranty? And yes I think it has something to do that I updated my phone last week to to the newest version available for it. (I think it was Lollipop 5.02?)

Hi,

My situation is the same. My xperia z3 won't charge at all and sometimes at 82% of charging its suddenly stop and wont charge. For the first time i thought is was the docking issue. But after i go through the information from the internet, it happened to other people also. So I repair the phone for my own self n restore all back to the phone after reset to factory. Then, it worked! can be charge as normal. SUDDENLY, it happened again. i though is the software n apps problem BUT it is NOT!!!

What i do :

1) I try to connect to the laptop, and it can be detect and also charging.

2) So i was thinking that maybe happen due to your charger.

3) I'm using normal USB port plus Original Sony cable before. I REPLACED to Original Sony USB but remain Original Sony cable.

and change the plug area or socket to any place at your house. ITS WORKED!!!!

What i can tell u is, maybe because of the unstable current from your charging area plug and also maybe because of the Sony USB adapter. It help to stable the current and the Sony allowed u to charge to protect your phone for any harm in the future. MAYBE Slightly_smiling_Face

SophiaW you clearly have no f clue of what people is talking about. The solution you provide makes no sense at all. The phone is not turning at all with no charge at all. The method you provide reaquires that the battery has to be at least 80% charged.

Hi - Issue Solved for me.

I tried all described restarts and software update and nothing worket.  I had only the 3 blinking red light as a response.  I made sure that my original sony charger is functioning with another xperia - and it was.

However, at the end I just tried chargning my phone with a cheap no-brand charger and after some seconds the phone was functioning properly again!!!

My explanation is that the cheap charger supplied a little higher voltage and managed to ignite the battery. So try this before sending it to repair. It will save you some time.

Hello

Today I got my phone in to water for like 3 mins

It was okey after i got out of the water. Then i dried it with a towel and i realised that its turned off. I tried to turn on for 3 times, Sony logo appeared and it turned off again. At my 4. try, it was totally on for like 3 minutes and then its gone. I tried volume up + power, volume down+ power, volume up + down + power, only one of those tries vibrated once but there was still no respond. I couldnt get it on, so i tried the yellow button by the sd card and it vibrated 3 times but still didnt turn on. After all those whenever i try all those again there is no respond. No led, no charge, no vibration, no charge and when i connect it to pc while pressing the volume down, pc cant recognize the device. Its nothing

Is there a way to fix it?

I charged it like 1h with original sony charger.

Btw it was %90 battery when it turned off at first time

I tried the above mentioned "fixes" but none seem to work for me (z3). my cell phone is unresponsive to any combination of button pressing and my pc doesn't recognize it as even being plugged in. the only thing it does is flash the red light for a while then turns back off. PLEASE HELP!!!! I love my phone very much!
