Sony Xperia Z - Dead, won't turn on, won't charge, PC doesn't recognise

Hi there

Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.

My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.

Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

In case anyone finds this thread in 2017.. none of these posts seemed to resolve the issue for me (granted I did not read them all). Device (Xperia Z3 compact tablet - yes it's old!) dead after the battery completely drained, would not charge battery even after being on charge for 48hrs. Could not boot into recovery, etc, etc. Here's what fixed it:

1. Plug device into PC/Mac/Linux

2. Hold power + up volume until device vibrates

3. Release power but hold volume up until LED goes purple/blue (this is fastboot mode)

4. Leave it for 30 mins because it is actually charging at this point

5. If you have fastboot installed then: fastboot reboot / If not, just attempt to reboot the device with the hardware buttons, it should start up normally now.

6. From here I could charge via regular charger.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks Andy. This worked for me.

I have a Z5 Compact and I just had to hold the power and volume up while the phone was plugged in to the PC and the phone kind of woke up.

Cheers!

Guys ive just signed up to tell you my solution because none of the answers worked for me. It seems in my phone (Z1) the battery ribbon somehow was moved out of the socket, maybe after a fall. I warmed up with a hair dryer the back lid and then slowly i removed (you need to be carefull because it can smash easily, i used a guitar pick). After that it was really easy because there is a protector from black plastic that holds the battery in place, it has a lot of screws but i didnt move any, the only thing i did it was pushing the plastic on top where the ribbon connects the battery to the phone,a heard a click and then  VOILA, battery charges, phone started no more blinking red lights. Hope that this will help someone. Good luck

I have had the exact same problem with both my sony xperia z, and i have found a way to fix it, but its a real hassle. My phone dies and wont turn back on even though I have it on the charger all night. I have searched everything trying to find a way to fix it, but everything online was'nt working... so I did what any other tinkerer would do and I took apart my phone. When ever my phone does that I take the glass back off my phone and I plug my phone in. As its plugged in I unplug everything in the phone. The battery, digitizer, speaker, cameras, everything. Then I plug them all back in and I hold my power button and pray for the best. Sometimes it turns back on the first attempt, but sometimes it takes like 10 times. Not saying this is the solution, but it did work for me. Sadly its a pain to do, and you have the risk of cracking the back panel, but hey gotta be able to call people. Im planning on getting one of there newer phones hoepfully they dont have these problems. If this is still relavant to anyone, I dont reccomend this as a first attempt, I dont take responsibility for anyones decison if they attempt this. I took the chance myself, and although my phone is working, its currently being held together with eltrical tape and is no longer water proof. so good luck and I hope you found this a bit helpful.
