BDP-S6500 BLU-RAY PLAYER ADVICE.

I'm really not sure if I've put this in the correct section, so I hope I have..

Hello,

I recently btought the Sony BDP-S6500 blu-ray player and on the box it says 4k uhd, however under that it says 'upscale'.

What I am wondering is if this will play the new uhd 4K blu-ray discs?

Hi there

Welcome to the forums

No you didnt post your question in the right area - but that OK, I have moved it to the right spot and it should auto re-direct you to it anyhow.

Anyway, onto the answer - Upscaling basically converts a lower resolution video to a higher resolution - to 'look' like its higher resolution in order to display on a higher definition screen.  Basically the BDP-S6500 is faking a 1080p Bluray, upscaling this resolution to 2160p (or 4K) to display on a 4K screen.  It is not true 4K, therefore you also cannot play the newer 4K UHD Bluray Discs.

A better explaination than mine can be found:

If you want to play the newer 4K UHD Blurays, then you would need Sony's UBP-X800
