Hi, I have xperia x10 and have just updated to 2.1 - after back up and restore the phone cannot read the sim and I have lost all my contacts. Any suggestions on how to regain my contacts. Pls help!

Ok, great! From HOME screen, MENU (left hard key, the one with 4 small squares)>Settings>Accounts & sync, tap your gmail account. This will sync your gmail contacts to your phone. Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or Network data (3G).
Hi Jtuff, any other places that you have saved your contacts? SD Card or sync-ed to your gmail account?
Not that I know of. I have been left with about 5 contact names and numbers.
I need more info to understand your situation. What you are saying is phone is unable to read SIM Card for your contacts? Did you try manually importing contacts from your SIM Card?
Sorry this phone is relatively new and driving me crazy. I have just gone onto my pc and logged on gmail account. All of my contacts are there. Sorry if this sounds silly but how do I get them from gmail back to my phone?
Thank you, thank you.
Glad that you have sorted out.
Enjoy your phone.
I have a similar problem. My phone has never been able to "read sim". However after the backup many of my contacts that are on googlemail dissapeared. I have it set to read googlemail contacts but they dont appear. If I go Phonebook > cannot read sim > edit contacts, I can see them. But why do they not appear in my contact list and better still how do I get them there? Any help would be much appreciated.
Phonebook -> tap on the three-headed monster -> tap on Google -> check all the groups
