Hi there,
On my Xperia Arc when I go on display settings there is an option to change how bright the screen is, however there is no option to make the light sensor automatically change the brightness.
Does anyone know how to set this?
I checked every possible settings and options and cant find it anywhere
When I had a Xperia X1 there was an option for this and worked really well.
Thanks!

yes there is, just add the widget to the homescreen
press MENU -> add -> widgets -> powercontrol or on/off backlight
tap the icon until the phone gets dark then tap it again, that will turn on the light sensor, if you tap it again it will maximize the brightness, tap it again and the backlight will be off, and so on

I'm sorry but there's unfortunately no option for this in the phone, but if you set the brightness to 100% the automatic sensor will be deactivated.
I've forwarded some feedback on this to concerned team.

But isn't it his question if there is an auto brightness setting (yes there is)? Or have I misinterpreted the question?

Hello,
Yes your right!!
the only way to set the automatic sensor is if you add the power control widget, seems weird its not on the display settings page. Thanks for your help!!

I followed your instructions, but it didn't work. My Android is on 2.3.3 version. Could this be the problem?
I hope that SE fix this or I will have an useless sensor.

You can try going to Service Menu
http://talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/18339
This is how you enter Service Menu on the Arc, Neo, Play, etc
Open the Dialer and press this
*#*#7378423#*#*
Go to Service Test -> Ambient Light Sensor and Proximity swith
test them

I tested both and the Ambient Light Sensor is working fine but the Proximity Switch is set OFF.
Is it the problem? I don't know how to turn it on.
