Xperia XZ headphone jack malfunction

Hi all,

I've been using my Xperia XZ for about 2 months now and I've been having very annoying problems with the headphone jack.

I tend to listen to music with my phone in my pocket but the slightest pressure on the headphone plug seems to make the phone detect the headphones to be removed. I have tried a straight plug, an L shaped plug and different sets of headphones and the results are all the same. My music never continue for more than a few steps if I walk around with my phone in my pocket.

Secondly, I use headphones that do not have an in-line mic and controls but the phone keeps thinking that I have pressed controls on an in-line mic and activates voice search functions which is also highly annoying.

Just wanted to see if these are common problems with the XZ? If not I might bring it in for servicing

Hi @sc1207,

I am not aware of any widespread issue with the XZ, but based on the information you have provided I would recommend you contact your Local support team to have it assessed.

I did notice this at all, can you find the tech specs of your accessories? It might be using a different standard as those commonly found headsets, (like CTIA), also make sure you pressed the headphone jack until you hear a click or the whole jack is in.

Today I had the same problem. First I thought something went wrong with the right headphone, but after I tried with different headphones I found the same with all types. When I pulled the jack to the end nothing changed, but when moved it while pressing to right it seems that the problem is somewhere deep at the jack inside.

I've had my xperia XZ for just over a month havent had any succes with any headphones, just plugged my new beats in and what do you know, one side works! The head phones work perfectly fine on their own and in all other devices, and the phone is basically new also, unfortunatly the fault seems to be in the phone.

The XZ does seem to require a slightly longer headphone jack than most standard ones if that is any help, but still seems to unfortunately have its problems. 😕

I recently bought both the new Sony xz and a pair of expensive bose headphones. So the problem I'm having when I connect the bose quiet comfort25 headphones in the music is detected through the headphones for the total maximum duration on 2 seconds and the I get a error message saying that "Warning you have unplugged the wired headset" now if there is a fixed like to know if not I will be returning my phone back to Sony. Thanks

I have a brand new Xperia XZ and I was so happy until I plugged in my well working Bose QuietComfort 20 headphones. The music plays for about 5-10 seconds and then it disconnects the headphones. Plugging them in and out again makes them work again for the same time.

It has to be some SW issue since the headphones works perfectly well on all other mobiles (including iPhone 5 and Xperia Z2) and its no geometrical difference between the plug on the Bose than on the headphones delivered with the XZ. Those work perfectly well, but isn't what I want to use of course.

Hi! I got my Experia XZ two days ago and just tried plugging in headphones. The headphone icon comes up for about 5 sec then disappears but the sounds never comes through. Very frustrating. Nothing above has worked

Same experience here. My Bowes & Wilkins C5´s works excellent in my old Z5 Compact, not with my XZ..apart for those 2s.. Very annoying and frustrating. I agree, it must be a SW issue which I really do hope there´s a fix for. Soon.
