Sony Xperia Z - Dead, won't turn on, won't charge, PC doesn't recognise

Hi there

Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.

My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.

Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

Thank you for this.... On my Z3 Compact it worked with the power button and the volume UP button. About 3-5 seconds were enough.

I'm also losing my temper for them. I mean sony dont or dont want to realise that their mobile company is dooming everyday, and they dont fix their most important part, that is the after-sales? You should improve or at least fix something before nobody buys sony phones ever again, please look and slap that financial results to your faces! Sony always been my favourite phone manufacturer ever, I can't imagine myself buying a phone from another brand. I'm pissed at seeing all your customers and most of them are loyal customers who paid for your products and you treated them like a joke? Just read this threads that is full of complaints and never at least try to solve their problem, and keep saying "please repair your phone using pc companion bla bla bla"

since sony ericsson become sony, they will never be the same again, I mean since I got my first sony phone, and since then, my sony phones always have some unsolved problems that keeps coming everytime even after service, that made my xperia l and xperia z3 unusable back then, and two of them got similar problems if you take a look deeply into them, one phone that restarts and reboots everytime I use it and the other one cant be used everytime while I'm turning on the phone from full sleep condition, all those make me go to service centre 3 times each and treated by a rude lady. I'm so lucky that I didn't get this problem (well my xperia l got it sometimes).

you're lucky someone didn't sue you for this. Please learn, I want my next phone to be sony again because I love every single devices and things you people made, but if you ever let me and everyone else down by these problems again, no just me, but those other 'tiny' 3 million customers of yours could be switching to others.

Thanks Elliander,

Your method worked. I was fustrated because nothing was working with my Xperia Z3+ Dual. I tried switching cables, chargers, powerbanks etc. inshort I disturbed my entire office staff for all possible accessories.

Pressed the volume button. The device vibrated 3 tiimes and showed 100%.

Its working fine now.

Thanks for sharing.

I seem to be having the same problem. Suddenly it stopped charging, so i pressed hard reset red button and now at least i get a RED LED. Its been charging for days. Still nothing i cannot boot, get a picture or get to recovery.

So i let it decharge for couple of weeks then tried the above. No luck.

After googling around i found out that sometimes its the battery, so i took the phone to bits, removed battery and reconnected it. Still dead.

This is one expensive dead phone.

I am now flipping up if its worth a gamble for a new battery or not

So a13xchan did you try the tip with the powerbank?

Buy a cheap powerbank and charge your dead phone with that. Since the powerbank charge with more power than your normal wall socket charger this seem to work and reanimate your dead phone. It did for me at least:)
