Sony Xperia Z - Dead, won't turn on, won't charge, PC doesn't recognise

Hi there

Bought an Xperia Z about a month ago. Had slight lag issues but nothing too serious.

My phone ran down and the battery died two days ago. I put it on the charge (its been on the charge pretty much ever since) with the red LED lit up. LED turns off completely when unplugged.

Phone will not turn on at all; have tried all of the manual resets (holding power button and volume button etc); have read these forums and searched the web for a solution to no avail. PC doesn't recognise the phone so can't reset it via PC Companion. Basically, I have an $800 unresponsive brick.

Very very disappointed to say the least. Phone was very well looked after, and to have it die simply because the battery ran down is extremely worrying. I've seen that this issue is very common yet there doesn't seem to be any definitive fix for it whatsoever.

Any help that anyone can give me would be really appreciated

Hi SophiaW,

I have the same issues as Fezman. I've tried everyones problem solvers and none of them work. My sony xperia z3 shows a red light in upper left corner of phone when i plug it in to a usb or a charger, but that is the only thing that shows on my phone. I can't see if it is charged or not (i believe its not). It doesn't make any reaction when i press the Yellow button next to the micro sd port. It does nothing when i press the volume controllers or the power button in any combination or time given.

Even though when i have it connected directly to my computer via the usb cable, it shows the red light in the corner, it still doesn't become visible or able to be updated.

Your sony companion is useless to a phone that is unresponsive.

"To back up your phone using PC Companion
1. Go to Support  to install PC Companion on a Windows computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore. (Can't Click it because its greyed out)"

"

1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone. (done)

2. Phone Software Update. (clicked)

3. Start. (started)

4. Repair Phone (no response, asks my phone to be fully charged, which seems impossible to an unresponsive phone)

All of these steps are unable to be performed if the phone does not respond. Please give us better feedback so that we can fix these issues, as none of the ones that have been provided work.

regards,

Michael

I didn't expect to be able to use it when it is wet, just not have it fail due to water ingress.

Solved Finally -

I ahve been using my Sony Xperia Z for more that a Year or more and suddenly two days back it stopped after I left it at zero percent battery one night. and then on it was not turning on, no matter how long I was having my phone on charge.  I saw many blogs and posts for suggestions.

But none worked and finally I thpought to try out the docking station port for charging. But I didnt have a dock station for my phone.

1. So I took an old USB cable I had and cut it open.

2. Took the red and back wire.

3. Connected the red(+) to the upper point and black(-) to the lower charge point just with an insulation tape.

4. After 5-10 mins boom, sony logo came on and the device was back on.

5. Then after 2% conencted my normal charger.

6. All works fine then on.

For me hard reset, hard reboot , boot loader mode nothing worked. But this one did. Cheers!!!

i hope this help,

i have z1 compact with the same issue, but 1st , my unit battery will last longer . even 1 % can make a call for 5 mins . but the problem is, when i charge the unit upto 100% the charging icon will not disappear even the charge is disconected, 2nd at 90% charge, the screen wont dim while charging state,. and the last if the unit battery drained . the unit will not turn on, nor charge, pc dosent recognise too.

what i do is, open sony pc companion, reset the z1c before plug in to the computer, after reset, hold down the volume down button, den plug it in, the sony companion dosent detect the unit hence it will lit up red led, after 2mins, you will notice that the computer is installing the device, and it will be installed as input device, 30 secs, the zc1 will charge at normal state with battery indicator Slightly_smiling_Face

whew !! save a few bucks for a new battery Grinning_Face

I was on this forum just now after my phone had simillar issues and none of it  helped

however if you had the problem of an app crashing and then you restarted  and it never turned back on then listen

simply

1.open the phone sim card flap located in the left hand corner is a red switch

2. with a pin simply hold it down for three seconds which will enable it to fully cut all power

3. finally hold power button for 3 sec and let go

4. now youre phone has been recovered

if any help is needed feel free to contact me.
